I think that line right there is the real twist. He realized he was the monster, and in the end you think he really didn’t realize it. But I think he did, he really did. That small shake of the doctor’s head said it all: lobotomy.  He wanted it, he preferred to die with no memory whatsoever of the brutal things he did, rather than to live with the reality of what he’d done. If I’d done what he did, I don’t know what I’d do.

WHY HAVE I NEVER REALIZED THIS.
